*The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution on June 28th, 2012, by which it invited Member States to pursue the elaboration of additional measures that better capture the importance of the pursuit of happiness and well-being in development with a view to guiding their public policies. The resolution stated that;

* The pursuit of happiness is a fundamental goal,
* It is important to recognize the importance of happiness and wellbeing as aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and develop public policies around these aspirations;
* There is a need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.

Thus deciding to proclaim March 20th the International Day of Happiness, all Member States, other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, were invited to observe the International Day of Happiness in an appropriate manner, to raise public awareness.
